As part of an ongoing energy conservation and refurbishment programme, Lenval were commissioned to remove existing metal and glazed windows from around four sides of the perimeter of a second-floor building.As asbestos residue was known to be present above the window heads, the removal works had to be undertaken under fully controlled conditions.The works were challenging, as the glazed rooms had to remain in normal occupancy during the works. On two elevations of the building the interior was being used as the main restaurant for both staff and members of the public. On the other two sides, they were occupied by administration and surgical staff either training or resting.
To assist in Infection Control, specialist hygienic and easy to clean uPVC panels were erected to partition the “Asbestos Work Area” from the occupants on the other side.Constant and satisfactory re-assurance air monitoring was undertaken throughout the works to re-assure members of staff that their workplaces and themselves remained safe and free from any exposure to asbestos fibres.The works on each of the elevations was completed on a rolling basis with the window installation company following closely behind.The project was completed satisfactorily over an eight week period.
