Lenval was approached by a large water company to carry out a mercury survey, then decontaminate the water filter beds which had become contaminated with mercury following the collapse of the main bearings (mercury filled) to each filter bed on the site.
This entailed removing the contaminated filter bed media within a controlled area by a micro digger and by hand, loading the media in to ibc’s and or sealed plastic drums (depending on the size of the project 3 -15 tonnes and access).
The solid pools of mercury were sucked up using a specialist mercury hoover.
This was carried out until zero readings were detected using the Jerome 405 mercury analyzer.
The waste was then removed from site taken to a treatment site to be cleaned and the mercury removed and collected, leaving the media to be reused as non-contaminated. Since the first project was completed in 2020 we have carried out a further 6 filter beds with more to follow for the same Client.
