Lenval were successful in a tender bid for the removal of asbestos containing decommissioned air handling units, steam heating plant and hot water mains from within a fully functioning Hospital basement plant room.Careful and strategic planning was involved to allow the plant room to remain fully operational during the removal of the redundant equipment.
Birdcage scaffolds were erected to access some of the air handling units and to
allow them to be dismantled into manageable sections. The project was completed in eight rolling phases over a ten-month period, with all the removal works being undertaken from within asbestos enclosures under
fully controlled conditions. Constant and satisfactory re-assurance air monitoring was undertaken inside the plant room throughout the works, to re-assure members of staff that the method of removal prevented any asbestos fibres becoming airborne, and that their workplaces and themselves remained safe.
