It’s always nice to be acknowledged as an experienced installer of a product. When we were first approached back in September 2019, we could never have imagined that we would be working on the iconic landmark that is the Elizabeth Tower, better known as Big Ben.

Our challenge was to fix in place the glass sections of the 4No faces using Repair Care Dry Seal. Each individual shape that makes up a face were sent over to us, 324 separate pieces to be exact on each face. Iron templates were then made up to find out if we were able to mastic the glass in place neatly enough to not protrude the shadow line of the actual frame.

We suggested we use the Dry Seal MP product as this we felt held its form better and was easier to work with in the tight angles of the glass sections. The interior of the clock face is a dark brown and Repair Care agreed to match their product with the brown of the clock face so that it would blend in with the frame.

After several weeks of practicing on the shapes sealing around the perimeter of each individual piece of glass against the frame we started work on the North face. Had it not been for the pandemic the works would have been completed within 7 months as it was the works were finally finished in April of 2021.
