Lenval was contacted by a ‘blue chip’ building contractor to carry out an in-
depth lead paint survey of an ornate staircase and the surrounding areas within
the Mandarin Hotel off Hyde Park, London. Following a major fire they suspected that the painted surfaces that had been damaged may contain lead. The survey detailed the % of lead content and depth of paint to be removed, photos of sample areas and the approximate quantity to be removed.
The in-depth survey was carried out by trained operators using an XRF machine
and a detailed report was then issued. The building contractor then sort instruction from the insurance company handling the project to remove all the paint containing lead from the walls, ceilings, the cast iron staircase handrails and roof structure.
The removal project took around 8 weeks to complete using the ‘Quill’ system,
within enclosures under fully controlled conditions.
